Workshops: Hogeschool Utrecht
The workshops and the Design by Fire DesignCamp are kindly hosted by Hogeschool Utrecht.
Oudenoord 700, the old building of the Hogeschool Utrecht, has been completely renewed by Inbo Architects in 2008. It now accommodates the faculty of Natural Science and Technics. The existing parts of the building were made suitable to function for modern education. The new part of the building has flexible floorplans and is the new, transparent face of the faculty.
Conference: Pakhuis de Zwijger
Late 2006 the renovated warehouse Pakhuis De Zwijger at the Piet Heinkade in Amsterdam opened its doors. The original warehouse, built in 1933/1934, is a typical example of the Modern architecture movement (het Nieuwe Bouwen). It was one of the most advanced refrigerated warehouses of its time.
Nowadays, the monumental warehouse on the south shore of Amsterdam's IJ waterfront is best known for the bridge — designed by Ton Venhoeven — which runs right through the building, connecting the Java island with the city. That conjunction of roads underneath the warehouse symbolizes Pakhuis De Zwijger today: a crossway of tradition and modernity, meeting place of cultures and generations, melting pot of disciplines and ideas.
